"Fentanyl: The Silent Toll"
Scripps News Investigates correspondent Lori Jane Gliha and producer Brittany Freeman won the Gracie Award in the "national news: hard news feature" category for their original reporting, "Fentanyl: The Silent Toll". The team traveled from coast to coast, interviewing families, medical experts and social workers about the deaths and near-fatalities of babies, toddlers and young children across the country.
"We are honored that our years of reporting on this issue have been recognized by an organization that elevates and empowers not only women but female investigative journalists," said Gliha. "We are delighted to know more people will see our work as a result of this award. We hope that will allow the light we have shined on these issues to continue to have a positive impact on many lives."
Their series of reports, which began airing in 2023, has expanded to include the groundbreaking analysis of more than 400 cases and continues today. The earliest stories in the series were nominated for a 2024 national news Emmy Award."
"Ukraine's Women Warriors"
Scripps News received an honorable mention in the "national news: soft news feature" category for its special report, "Ukraine's Women Warriors". Bellini's reports provide insight into the experience of more than 5,000 female Ukrainian volunteers in combat positions.
Bellini has been reporting in Ukraine since the start of the war.
His investigation into Ukraine's orphans received several national journalism awards including: a Deadline Club Award; a New York Press Club Award; the Radio Television Correspondents' Association's David Bloom Award; and a third place National Headliner Award. View all of Bellini's reporting here.
